It’s funny how different people hear things differently isn’t it? Sky must have been pestering the club today for a line on the rumours that Sunderland are about to whisk Charles N’Zogbia away for ten bob and a bag of grapes. Eventually they get rentaquote on the line, but there’s obviously no story in the news that N’Zogbia is happy at Latics and happy playing for Bobby so what they going to do?
I know let’s miss out loads of what was actually said so it sounds like all the lad has to do is ask nicely and we’d let him sign for Wigan Robin Park on the promise that they’ll take it easy on us in next week’s friendly. But if you were going to do that surely you wouldn’t be daft enough to then play the full interview.
Sky bloke “Whelan says that they don’t won’t to sell the midfielder but will do if the player wants to leave”*
Two minutes later Mr Whelan actually says “if a top six club comes in for him, pays enough money and he wants to leave, then we’ll let him go”*
Not being a professional I don’t know what the idea is here, surely they’re not relying on people listening to anything other than the headlines, have they never spent time talking to any members of the public? Maybe they’ve just got more faith in the world than I have, because I’m not having it that a reputable media outlet would be deliberately tailoring it’s reporting to perpetuate a particular club’s image as a selling club and to push it’s own agenda by painting us as a pissy little club who isn’t worthy of their time.
(apologies if I’ve paraphrased, I already rewound it twice and forgot to write it down, but hey, lazy journalism begets lazy journalism, eh?)

I’ve read the Neil Rimmer article slowly and carefully…twice. Sorry but I cannot grasp what the point of it is or what the purpose of his writing it is.

You’ve got to love the Mackems dontchya? The article was a comment on Sky’s attempt at selective reporting, not the chairman’s “honesty” or the relationship between the two clubs. Definitely nothing to do with whether or not N’Zogbia will leave or not.

An embarassing error by any standards.Also you’ve actually got to set out and explain to the readers what your article was attempting to convey and what it wasn’t. If this wasn’t self evident in your original writing,you have failed in your purpose and perhaps you should be sacked.

And it’s ”a pissy little club WHICH isn’t worthy of their time.” To personnify Wigan Football Club is just wrong.
Absolutely brilliant, who knew that Mackems would turn out to be such experts on the written word? Or take such offense at something that has nothing to do with them?
Strictly speaking I think is should be “a club who are” mind, personally I don’t subscribe to the American ‘organisations and societies as singular objects’ line.
Obviously everyone is happy playing for the latics, can’t expect them not to say that. Imagine if he said Sorry supporters, I actually hate it here, to be honest, if another club comes in, pays me more money than I’m getting, then I’m away. But the inevitable is I like it here, because if any deal falls through, he can still play at the club, doesn’t get the abuse off the home fans and is well respected by the fans. Sounds to me that Wigan are sticking him in the shop window.

That was the point mate, it was a rant against agenda based reporting not particular to that one report. Mostly it’s about generating stories out of smoke in the hope that they can turn it into flames.
