Wigan Athletic have announced that goalkeeper Mike Pollitt has agreed a new one year contract at the DW Stadium. The 39 year old is the club’s longest serving player, having become the first to sign following promotion to the Barclays Premier League in May 2005, and he has now played under four different managers at Latics. He played three times for the club in all competitions last season, all three games against Bolton Wanderers, and is now just three games short of his 500th league career appearance.

Manager Roberto Martinez said:

“Mike is a terrific goalkeeper first and foremost with great experience and he continues to set standards on a daily basis that the younger players can follow. He has been patient during his time at the club but has never been anything less than totally professional and committed to the club.

“He is also an infectious character who is great to have around the dressing room and we are all delighted to have him back.”

After signing his contract at the DW Stadium, Mike Pollitt said:

“I’m delighted to have signed a new one-year contract this morning, it had been an on-going issue for a few weeks and now we’ve gladly all come to an agreement. I’mm 39 now, approaching my seventh season at the club and although I am keen to develop as a coach at some stagem right now I’m focused on the playing aspect of the game because I feel I’ve still got plenty to offer to the team given the opportunity.”
